The Moldy Peaches
Live at Leeds Festival 2002 on Saturday, 24th August 2002
First up of the Main Stage on Saturday are fancy dress fetishists Moldy Peaches. And, lo and behold, they've been rummaging around in the dressing up box again with acoustic guitarist in full length unicorn costume, Kimya in bear head and Adam in an extremely tassel-y cowboy outfit. They're here to entertain and peddling their Anti Folk choons they do just that. The costumes and sometimes childish, naïve lyrics clang against the song themes of putting human waste in to condoms and being slipped date rape drugs. If you can handle topics like that with a stoopid smile on your face then you're in for a treat. Kimya giggles and shrugs apologetically through previous single 'County Fair' and the stripped down drums and guitars of 'Lucky Number 9'. 'Who's Got The Crack?' is self-explanatory and some wit in the crowd has brought along home made sign reading "We've got the crack". Adam and Kimya sing lines back and forth at each other with the comedy timing the match of anyone in the comedy tent. With such catchy tunes, hilariously delivered lyrics and a drummer called Strictly Beats it's hard to dislike the Moldy Peaches. Even if they are rotten to their core.
