By The Wombats
Highly acclaimed debut album, first new material since, The Wombats return with 'My Circuitboard City', let's get involved.
This new single is clearly a progression for the trio. A more mature sound than what we're used to and expect. A bouncy opening and it's straight into the bleak sounds of the vocals, backed by the effervescent music that is their distinctive sound. It's a rather short outing and not one that is overly memorable. The 'have a dance, have a drink' line sticks in my head and I was definitely joining in with that part, but the rest just shows up and sits in the corner, not really chatting to anyone.
2008 was a massive year for The Wombats, two sold out tours, playing the Royal Albert Hall and a combination of various massive festival appearances. 2009 sees them play three NME Award Show dates in February before 'My Circuitboard City' is released on March 16th. It's no 'Moving To New York.' It's no 'Let's Dance To Joy Division.' But it is the next step on the journey for The Wombats, and I reckon it'll be a triumphant one.
