More In Sorrow Than In Anger

By The Olympic Symphonium

Another offering from the Forward Music Group featuring three Canadian dudes sharing singing and writing duties, namely Nick Cobham, Kyle Cunjak and Graeme Walker. Did the name symphonium leave you expecting more?

Strongest, of the three, in terms of writing and delivery seems to be Graeme Walker, especially when joined by some finger lickin' banjo pickin', but all three have their moments.

Did I say banjo? That's right, the first thing that leaps out at you is that this is country music ......No wait, come back, before you change channels it would seem your distaste is shared by the promotions company who use every adjective, every synonym but to describe the sound. Americana, Melodic Pop even, and this is a gem, "dramatic string laden stories of personal contemplation" which, I believe, is long hand for country music.

Is Country so uncool? Am I therefore so uncool?

But I love some of these songs. 'Intentions Alone', 'Blood From a Stone' and 'Oh, Dear' feature some of the sweetest slide guitar this side of the Flying Burrito Bros. I love Lampchop, I love Midlake and I'm pretty damn keen on this and therefore, of course, so should you be.
