By Sneaky Sound System
Having conquered their native Australia, Sneaky Sound System inflict their self-titled UK album on us on April 20th with plenty of massive songs crammed into its track list. They have plenty of support from Radio 1 and the times have described them as "a blast of sugar-rush electro, stealing hearts."
The trio consists of Miss Connie (Connie Mitchell), Black Angus (Angus McDonald) and MC Double D (Daimon Downey) and their origins creep back to hugely successful club night 'Sneaky Sundays,' where guest DJs have included Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem.
Forthcoming single, 'I Love It' I've reviewed previously, and the rest of the album continues in the same vein. It's enjoyable dance music, but some of it still feels slightly dated to me. Perhaps that's what's so appealing about SSS? The backbone of the tracks are clearly the combination of funky beats and passionate vocals. I can't really take anything away from them though. They've gone triple platinum in Australia, won four ARIAs (Aussie Brits) and their new album '2' has debuted at the top of the album charts in Oz. My favourite track is 'Pictures' which was made Record of the Week by Jo Whiley not so long ago.
Look out for some live slots across the country soon. Be quick though, they had three sold out shows in London last year and are clearly taking on the UK the same way they have down under.
