By Evil Nine
'Icicles,' the third single from Evil Nine's 'They Live' album features Seraphim (of 'No Surrender' fame) on vocals, and his contributions are undoubtedly this song's strongest asset.
Seraphim's spoken-word contributions to the verses may have a tendency to be drown out by the electro beats but, on the chorus, he turns out unusual, hook-packed vocals with apparent ease. Alternating between ice-cool drawls and sudden, yelped, whiny-edged high notes, Seraphim ensures you won't be able to get the chorus out of your head.
Beyond Seraphim's stellar vocals, 'Icicles' relies on a relentlessly-plucked chord, fleshed out with a mixture of spacey synths and eerie sound effects that just manages to keep the song ticking over until we get another repetition of that great chorus.
'Icicles' is irritatingly catchy and, if the rest of the song can't live up to that chorus, then it doesn't really matter; the chorus is easily good enough to carry the whole song.
