The reformation of the late-nineties' most brutal of crowd pleasers is welcome news as 3 Colours Red once again rock like Armageddon. Old fans reunite, rejoice, party and are indeed, quite merry. As Pete Vuckovic says, they haven't seen so much support for a long time, before beginning a rendition of terrace favourite "Marching On Together" - as if he actually needed to get a Leeds crowd going!
3 Colours Red proceed to rattle through all of the old favourites; Paralyse, Nerve Gas, Nuclear Holiday, and Mental Blocks are the aural assaults they always were and This is my Hollywood completes the barrage in the encore. Surprisingly, the song synonymous with the band is rock ballad Beautiful Day, but as expected from a mosh-happy, yet partisan crowd this too is very well received.
On the other hand the new stuff is all a bit naff: attitude-lacking, rock-lite tunes with a blatantly obvious effort at 'progression' in order to re-invent themselves. They really don't need to rewrite the formula just to suit today's music trends. There are guitar-pop tunes, a la Feeder, and a fleeting nu-metal tune, but 3 Colours Red are neither Feeder nor Limp Bizkit: so more alco-fuelled adrenaline blasts of pure rawk please and less of the new direction. That said, FCKU not only looks cool on t-shirts, it is a stand out explosive newbie so let's wait and see...
