The second single to be lifted from Fightstar's third album, 'Mercury Summer' is a more upbeat and melodic song than we're perhaps used to from the post-hardcore four-piece.
'Mercury Summer' is the sound of a band on top of their game. Charlie Simpson's brisk vocal patter sweeps the listener into a massive, shout-along chorus packed with soaring, life-affirming cries of "mercury summer!" which are given a further boost by layered secondary vocals.
But, just because 'Mercury Summer' is bristling with mood-enhancing vocal hooks, doesn't mean it fails to deliver the usual Fightstar racket. The glimmering, summery haze of the verses is tempered by the drum-heavy, riotous post-hardcore blast of the choruses.
'Mercury Summer' further cements Fightstar's status as one of Britain's most underrated post-hardcore acts.
