Wonderswan played short and effective songs delivered in an almost nonchalant fashion.Their lead singer revealed that he only arrived an hour before the gig due to his 'rubbish' job which prompted an unlikely call and answer of "Does anyone work in a call centre here?"
They will be keen to follow in the success of call-centre founded bands Baddies and Editors.
Bear Hands were on next and I had the pleasure of listening to a band I've never heard before. Yelped vocals, some off-kilter drumming and some fine tunes made for an excellent set. Opening track Vietnam crashed in and set the tempo for a high octane performance.
Despite a small crowd, the band gave a showing as if their lives depended on it. Thrashing their way through a set of catchy and energetic songs leading to excellent set-closer What A Drag.
They were joined onstage by Boy Crisis, a band of fellow Brooklyn natives for a chaotic end to the set.
The band also earned bonus points for their lovely branded American Apparel t-shirts which they were selling after the show. On this display, how could you refuse?
