The Rapture @ Cockpit

It's an early start tonight at the Cockpit, it is 7:30 and Black Wire are already strutting their stuff on stage at their local. They are energetic and raw, yet dark and quirky at the same time. Songs such as "The Face" and "Attack attack attack" are vigorous and very much 'a la mode' most comparable to The Faint (who are playing up at the Uni at this very moment). Black Wire give a valiant attempt of showing their mates what they can do, which is mainly a lot of frenzied dancing. It seems almost indubitable that they will be appearing in the NME soon.

The Prosaics' performance contains more energy and the use of a human drummer. They are more of a basic rock 'n' roll band, raw and passionate, but again very dark and moody. They pound out a strong set and leave the crowd ready to greet headliners The Rapture.

Personally, I've only heard a few tracks, but I was impressed enough to be expecting good things from this band. I was expecting high volume, high speed and optimum verve. I don't really think I received it from The Rapture. "House of jealous lovers" was possibly one of my favorite tracks of this year. It failed to get the crowd going, which after half the set was what I was counting on.

Tracks such as "Modern Romance" were minimalist and even monotonous. Not the upheaval I was prepared for. It wasn't bad, just unforeseen in this band. The crowd was left ready to dance, but didn't get given the chance. Could this band be another "all hype and no balls" victim?! Another tenner, and I could have gone to see The Faint.
