The Phoenix Fall @ HiFi Club

By Tom Keighley
First up on this evening's bill is a band who has become stalwarts of the 360 Club. L-Mo have put in some astonishingly professional performances at HiFi, and it looks as though tonight is to be no exception. The three piece are effortless in their delivery and look to be having great fun, with their quirky recipe of funk, hip hop and pop. A great crowd response for these boys is now guaranteed, not least due to the masterful playing from each member. Beat boxing, serious bass manoeuvres and slick proficiency on the drums; L-Mo are an outfit who definitely have it together.

L-Mo vacate the stage, leaving the second act of the night to enjoy the buzz that they've mustered.

LazyBaby step up to the plate with a sleek and polished sound, lending pop melody to soul, funk and reggae rhythms. At home with the chic underground style of HiFi, this band has an incredible knack for smooth groves and sultry bar room tones. Their striking front woman carries off the soulful finesse of the songs, with a distinct fire behind her voice, but enough modesty to show a little tenderness.

Undoubtedly she is propped up by the proficiency across the rest of the band, as they deliver an expert sound with little hesitation between numbers. A meticulously executed set.

A scrum develops at the front for the last act tonight, The Phoenix Fall who are building up to their 2nd single release; 'Tearing Me Apart' which is out on 23rd November, after a successful run for the 1st single, shifting 1000 downloads. Their vocal fanbase noisily awaits the start of their set, delayed by laptop breakdown. Eventually though, they are underway to a rapturous reception.

Like L-Mo before them, The Phoenix Fall are 360 veterans, who have put in some well received sets here. Since their last outing, the band immediately looks more comfortable and there's more focus on the stage presence this time. Perhaps encouraged by the gang of pals in the audience they take more time to showboat, and really play up to the support. Their ultra-poppy guitar numbers seem to go down well, owing to lofty choruses which are driven home with some gusto. Bemused HiFi staff gaze on, as the end of the set climaxes in a sweaty, shirts off ovation from the crowd.
