'U Can Dance' is an intriguing take on the traditional dance song, with an equally attention-grabbing backstory. DJ Hell (the man behind thirty minute dance epic 'The DJ feat. P. Diddy') takes a previously unreleased track from 'Electric Lounge Lizard' Bryan Ferry and transforms it into a woozy, alt-electro head-twister. An electro pulse is the only thing preventing this collection of drooly vocals, shivering space-aged sound effects and sibilant backing vocals from collapsing wetly into itself.
It's an unnerving, atmospheric spin on the dance and electro genres. Although DJ Hell does kick it into second gear for the closing minute, he also packs in the ghostly secondary crooning and spacey sound effects, ensuring that increasing that trance-music thrust, doesn't compromise on the atmosphere that gives this single such a memorable edge.
