Far's cover of Ginuwine's RnB hit 'Pony' has an interesting backstory: after announcing that the band would be reforming for a handful of tour dates, Far booked two intimate warm-up dates under the pseudonym of Hot Little Pony. Apparently warming to their alter-egos, they created a Hot Little Pony Myspace page and posted a cover of 'Pony,' which quickly became a web-based hit as fans flocked to the Hot Little Pony Myspace to download the track. Now, 'Pony' is enjoying a physical release as a very exclusive picture disc.Apparently, 'Pony' is a longtime favourite song of Far's, and they've not only done it justice - but they bring a sense of fun to the rather too slick, cool and trendy original. The suspicion that they're singing those lyrics with their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks (well, hopefully) makes for a grin-inducing listening experience. The bizarre, RnB croak of the original backing track is replaced by crunching guitars, while Far frontman Jonah Matranga remains pretty faithful to the original vocals, but with the addition of some cheesy, vocoder moments that contribute to the impression this is a song that doesn't take itself too seriously. Possibly the most fun you're ever going to have listening to an RnB cover.
