Sounds like a great gig... !
Live at Bassment on Wednesday, 14th May 2003
Pussy Whipped have cooked up a quadruple helping of shoutyness lady style this evening with about 100 at the Bassment to witness the scenes. First up are locals No Problem Disko, containing some "crazy legs dancing" - not a difficult thing to do, but combined with wonkyness and disconnected melodies, somewhat of a triumph. We next have the 4 polka dot dressed ladies of Kulvochy armed heavily with the Donnas' cockrock riff action. We like. Manchester's Hooker are fast shouty girl punk action, taking the heavy bluesyness of Spencer, J and Harvey, PJ to the required spots. Katastrophy Wife kick off with a hybrid Faith No More/Chilli Peppers/Rage Against The Machine/Pixies beastola. Aye caramba! Flanked by 2 skinny blokes, Kat screams shouts and mashes her guitar to a pulp. 1 song ends like pots and pans being chucked down stairs, while sealed in a bucket and connected to a fuzz pedal and overdrive combination. My my my, oh yes!! But it only really kicks off when Kat puts down the guitar, bass boy takes over and Kat can devote her time to really going for it with her voice - the songs sound much more menacing, although when I tell her this later, she doesn't seem that pleased.....what it does though is turn the band into a sort of female fronted Extreme Noise Terror, which can only be good, no?
