VolcanoesI was outraged on two counts after I had seen this band play. First of all, the powers that be have imposed a door charge to watch the gigs at Acoustic Revolution, I mean the nerve of them, charging to see live bands, I've never heard of the like! The second outrage is that this talented group of musicians have not yet been signed to a record label.

Acoustic Revolution is a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon; pub, pint and some good live music. Being live and unplugged also means that you can really hear and see if the band can actually sing and play music rather than hide behind a lot of electric noise and it is safe to say, these guys can sing and play their guitars with aplomb. The sound that came out was purer and less complicated and after listening and enjoying their EP, 'Shaking That Brass,' the songs from this complimented the different musical format.

There wasn't a slow moment in this five song set, opening with 'Good Night and Good Luck.' The impossibly catchy melodies keep you interested for as long as they are on stage and are enough to interrupt anyone's conversation; they need to be listened to. Set highlights were the Spanish sounding 'Lucy Lombardo' and 'Welcome to Midnight', with a sad gothic feel to it but as ever, the strongest was left to last with the complex song 'Temple'. The dramatic build up to this multi-layered song gave over well to the lack of instruments and did not lose its complexity and hint of 70s rock nostalgia to the epic format that its regular recorded version holds. Quite simply, Volcanoes are the best indie rock band around Yorkshire at the moment and have that extra maturity to their music that other bands lack.

Well worth the £2 door fee. Now will somebody please give these guys a record deal!
