By Rose Elinor Dougall
Prior to the release of her debut album, Rose Elinor Dougall releases her 'Find Me Out' single.
A-side 'Find Me Out' will unhinge your jaw, with Rose's cut-crystal voice and her ability to hold a note for a freakishly long time, apparently without breaking a sweat. But, it isn't all about the vocals. The clear thread of her voice spills its tale of woe across a haunting soundscape of limping, wounded-sounding bass, fragile chimes and caverns of echoing strings. A bittersweet brew of melancholy and beauty; prepare to be wooed by 'Find Me Out' - and prepare to get your heart broken in the same instant.
The B-side is an acoustic version of 'I Know We'll Never.' The simple chords fluttering away in the background, really highlight the purity of Rose's vocals. However, without that coating of melt-in-the-mouth alt-pop, 'I Know We'll Never' is just a vehicle for a beautiful voice. After you've finished gawping at Rose's vocal, there isn't much else to this song.
This is worth purchasing for 'Find Me Out;' a track of sticky alt-pop sounds, and decidedly downhearted sentiments, but the B-side has limited replay value.
