By Charlotte Gainsbourg
'Time of the Assassins' is an obvious choice of single, being one of the more substantial efforts on Charlotte Gainsbourg's wispy 'IRM' album.
The verses are atypical Gainsbourg: dreamy vocals, check; bright acoustic guitars, check. It's the sort of music that requires your full attention, if you're to notice how moving and earnest it all is. However, the chorus packs the punch befitting of a single, as a gale of lamenting backing vocals rips its way through the acoustic guitars and Gainsbourg's shivering vocals.
A hush-inducing, folky whisper of heartfelt emotion, with a lush, alt-pop swirl of a chorus. One for those who like their music doe-eyed and sedate, but not coma-inducing.
