The first single to be lifted off Beatsteaks' 'Limbo Messiah' is album highlight 'Jane Became Insane.'
This is raw, rasping rock forced into catchy shapes. Even hoarse frontman Arnim Teutoburg-Weib dishes out his vocals to a twitching rhythm that makes for an oddly pop-centered chorus. What's clear from 'Jane Became Insane' is that Beatsteaks have an ear for a hook, but never lose sight of that punk sneer. The end result is bristling backing vocals that jabber out hooky "nah-nah-nah-nah" nonsense, and sandpaper slide-guitar that culminates in a neat little hand-clap. Punk rock stuffed with hooks; this is completely addictive.
