By Dead Confederate
'Giving It All Away,' the precursor to Dead Confederate's 'Sugar' album is a complete about-turn from the gloomy stoner rock of 'Wrecking Ball' - and it's certainly a long way away from the doom-fest of breakthrough single 'The Rat.'
'Giving It All Away' is scuzzy alt-rock where the vocals thread in and out of great swathes of blurry riffing and jangly drumbeats. A catchy bit of slide-guitar bends through the haze, and Dead Confederate do bring in a squealy, technically masterful guitar solo towards the end, but overall this is just too easy on the ears to make much of an impression. And, for fans of their 'Wrecking Ball' album, 'Giving It All Away' will be completely unrecognisable.
