Some Frontier

By Orphan Boy

Self-proclaimed council pop / lad art trio Orphan Boy team poetically bleak lyrics with big, rousing vocals on the latest single to be lifted from their 'Passion, Pain and Loyalty' album. Musically, the band restrict themselves to a rumble of drums, a flicker of bass and the occasional riff, while Rob Cross hogs the spotlight, bellowing the chorus and demanding you pay 'Some Frontier' your full attention. Even on record, the song's call-and-response structure draws you in, and it's easy to imagine this becoming one big sing-song at an Orphan Boy's show. The chorus is a little repetitive, but what it's lacking in variety, it more than makes up for in enthusiastic vocals and sing-along appeal. A blue-collar, intelligent pop song with a frontman who can belt out those big notes with the best of them.
