By Ali Campbell
The first single lifted from UB40's Ali Campbell's 'Great British Songs' album, is a reggae cover of The Hollies' 1967 hit 'Carrie Anne.' It's a sublime cover, with some ingenious vocal manoeuvring on the chorus, which turns the whole thing into one big, shiny vocal hook. However, the blissed-out vibe that hangs thick around this song means it feels more like a pleasant distraction, than a track you'll be dying to hear time and time again. Apparently, the upcoming album features twelve such reinterpretations of rock and pop classics. Hopefully, they'll have a lot more bite than this track.
