This New York trio have been tipped for big things like most bands wriggling maggot-like out of the Big Apple but on this evidence Violens could metamorphise into butterflies with bite. Their soul belongs to the 80s, but here they step back in time even further with a beautifully-crafted Hammer House of Horror-inspired piece of 60s psychedelia which sticks its fangs into the listener and refuses to let go until the blood flows freely.
The video, shot by Alejandro Cardenas, art director for high-class fashion label Proenza Schouler's, has everything you need for this Halloween release. Shlock Exorcist-like images flash to the sound of a disorientating intro which startlingly bleeds into the loveliest of harmonies from three guitar-playing priests serenading a model who transforms into a drumming zombie that uses limbs for sticks...oh and then her brain explodes. What more could you possibly ask for? Top video to accompany a great track that will gnaw away at your flesh for weeks. Catch them supporting the Drums at Leeds Met on Saturday.
