Recent trends have displayed a rise in instrumental bands; with genres such as 'shoegaze' or post-rock increasing dramatically in popularity. Though often impressive musically, it's hard to find a collection of musicians with a well defined personality. This is where Maybeshewill break away from the crowd. Their combination of subtly blended electronic textures and well formed musical phrases put them leagues above the stale, repetitive formulas followed by many instrumental rock outfits.
With a new album due April/May time, 'Critical Distance' has been sent forth to tantalise the musical taste buds of those awaiting its release. The title track contains many of the traits that have earned the band much of their acclaim; blending atmosphere and musicality with equal measure, to create an epic soundscape bursting with memorable hooks and climactic choruses.
Following this enticing taste of things to come, the single concludes with a dramatically alternative re-imagining of 'I'm in Awe, Amadeus!'. Favouring melodious acoustic guitars over the riotous rhythmic components of the original, the track presents itself as an altogether different beast; demonstrating the band's ability to transcend genre yet still remain true to their own sound.
The single is due for release on March 7th through Function Records (Shield Your Eyes, Cats and Cats and Cats). Its release follows their two week stint across Germany and the UK, during which they will be joined by German prog-metallers Long Distance Calling.
