By The Blackout
In 2010, The Blackout set out to make a new album, with a little help from their fans; they aptly named "Riot Squad".
As The Blackout were ready to record a follow up to 2009 'The Best In Town,' and their record label were having none of it, so they had Pledge Music 's website brought to their attention. Pledge Music is a site where bands raise money for their projects, such as new albums, in exchange for fan experiences. The Blackout were offering things such as spending the day at Thorpe park with the band and watching them rehearse, as well as other memorabilia like signed drumsticks and exclusive t-shirts.
The pledge was a 60 day event, which took every member of the band by surprise, and exceeded the target within 3 days of its opening, allowing the 3rd studio album to be recorded almost immediately.
The album with the title 'Hope' was recorded with producer Jason Perry, who also worked on their last album. The band believes he brings out the exact sound and style they wish to showcase.
With the album 'Hope' set for a spring release date, taster track 'Ambition Is Critical,' is up for download from their website and is free, as a thank you to all who have pledged on their 3rd album.
As the suspense for 'Ambition Is Critical' began to build, The Blackout had some fun on their twitter, with the Riot Squad; by causing a frenzy with the song title by trending it in the UK and eventually worldwide.
With the opening chords, it's clear that The Blackout have progressed immensely from their last recorded songs in 2009. The song is packed full of the usually harmony of the two front men. Gavin Butler sings the melodies and Sean Smith packs a punch with his growls.
With lyrics like "We are the dynamite. Who the f**k are you?!" taking the line from their first album 'We Are The Dynamite' the band still have attitude and are set to let people know they are here, loud and energetic as always.
The song has the customary The Blackout heavy guitar riffs, with a sing-a-long chorus, echoed across twitter this Tuesday morning, as the song title is still trending high.
'Ambition Is Critical' is an excellent teaser of what is to come in 2011 for The Blackout. As their upcoming headline tour co-insides with the album release, spring will be a riot.
