By The Blackout
As far as Rock / Rap collaborations go in recent times, they haven't been up to scratch. However in 2011 this could all change with the latest offering from The Blackout.
Featuring new rap sensation Hyro Da Hero, who mixes rap with rock backing tracks, the song 'Higher And Higher' already has a buzz from Radio one, as it is proclaimed "Hottest record in the World" by Zane Lowe. The track was given its first airing on Zane's show Wednesday 2nd February, and caused frenzy across the internet, on sites such as twitter, once again hitting the trending topics.
Bringing back a nu-metal style, The Blackout have successfully produced a metal hit, with a rap edge, which proves these collaborations can be done right and with excellent style.
There is a cheeky chat from singer Sean Smith before the track is played on Radio 1. The bleached blonde rock icon, talks of their touring schedule in 2011 and that their album 'Hope' has the release date of 4th April, best to put that in your diaries if this energetic track is anything to go by.
With distorted guitars and pop like singing to start, this is a whole new sound The Blackout are hitting us with. The time spent on tour with Limp Bizkit may have rubbed off on the Welsh sextet, as the Nu metal style sound is apparent.
As the rap verse kicks in from Hyro, it fits in perfectly with the sound and lyrics of the song. If you aren't nodding along to the beat of the song by now, there's something wrong with you. "Kinda hung-over, just woke up from Blacking out" are lyrics that overwhelm your ears from Hyro and are exactly how I'd describe this experience too.
As the guitars continue to grab the listener, the heavy riffs and lyrics pack a punch that leaves you wanting to jump around to the infectious chorus "It will take you higher and higher". The words scream out at your eardrums, your heart beat is racing and your body is fighting the urge to dance along.
To sum up, The Blackout will be assaulting your ears much more this year, so you might as well join the Riot Squad, (as they call their fans ), and jump along to the deep beats and electrifying guitars. 'Higher And Higher' is just a taste of what is set to hit us in April.
The song is currently being streamed on the band's website www.theblackout.net . The song is set for Feb 14th release and I think we will all want The Blackout to be our Valentines this year.
