Downtown Battle Mountain II

By Dance Gavin Dance

The first track ('Spooks') kicks in with Jonny Craig's melodic vocals, backed up with Jonathan Mess' harsher screams. This quirky mix of clean vocals, screams and rapping will entertain as well as charm. Catchy guitar riffs are key in this song and the next, 'Pounce Bounce.'

As the album progresses it becomes repetitive, with Craig's vocals being the only thing that stands out. The guitars may still seem interesting to old fans but also somewhat irking. The controlled chaos that is Dance Gavin Dance may write some interesting songs but only for a select audience, and may get boring after some time.

'Elder Goose' being a more laidback track allowing Craig's vocals to shine and improving Mess' vocals in the process. This sort of song suits DGD more than other tracks on the album but may not impress some listeners.

Lead single off the album 'Heat Seeking Ghost Of Sex' is another stand out track from the album, with impressive guitars and impressive vocals. Songs which allow vocals to be at the forefront, rather than the music itself are a strength to Dance Gavin Dance.

This album does not compare to past efforts from the band. Possible singles stand out however repetition in sounds and lyrics hinder the band. The change in line up, and Craig's return has not inspired the band to make something magical.

This is Downtown Battle Mountain 2 right? If so the artwork/title are wrong.

It's no where near as good as the first one but still a decent album. Some great tracks on it. Like you said Elder Goose/Heat Seeking Ghosts Of Sex are the best.
