By Miles Kane
It's always a challenge to take a classic track and make it fresh whilst doing it the justice it deserves. Released on 7" for record store day ex-Rascal Miles Kane tackles Edwyn Collin's classic 'A girl like you before', and manages to create a stylishly dark cover.
Kane is definitely the right man for the job; his nostalgic 60's influences rise to the challenge, keeping the raw sound of the original yet managing to stamp his own unique sound on a seemingly untouchable track.
Embracing a far darker sound than the original, the track is transformed from a sweet school boy crush into a seedy love affair. Reverb ridden verses help create Kane's trademark mysterious, echoed sound before a perfectly contrasting distorted guitar tears in with the song's famous riff, building the song up to a snarling finale.
With his first solo album 'Colour of the Trap' featuring collaborations with rock royalty Noel Gallagher and Gruff Rhys out on May 9th, Kane is certainly set for great things.
