By Matt and Kim
Disco-punk duo Matt & Kim have released jovial party track "Block After Block" from their 2010 album "Sidewalks". Ever since the release of "Daylight" in 2009, Matt & Kim have been soaking up plaudits. The cheery couple have an infectious set of smiles and that feeling has been captured well in their music. The new album opener is glimmering with exultant electronic morsels and rampant cymbals. Drummer Kim Schifino plays like a wind-up bunny-rabbit with interminable energy.
Each verse is supplemented over a synth-pop jive and club-disco percussion. The bridge to the chorus is a sullen stream of jazzy keys and atmospheric vocals. You'll find yourself basking in the chorus of this track without really knowing what he's saying until the line "This is all me, this is all me" and then spontaneously singing along. Nonetheless it's an enchanting disco-tune that is delivered cutely by Matt Johnson.
The tempo picks up towards the end of the song with a percussion fizzle. The DIY-double have done themselves proud with this single and following their own trend they've made a very watchable video to match. Matt & Kim are a huge success in the US and maybe it's not too long before they strike a match over here too.
