Yuck

Live at Leeds Festival 2011 on Sunday, 28th August 2011

On the previous two days my early morning visits to the Radio 1 / NME tent have provided my ears with a bit of a battering, in the best possible way, so on day three of the festival it is a nice change of pace to encounter Yuck's slightly slower paced, harmonious delivery of guitar led, pop-rock.

Swathes of melody flush out from the stage as the hushed dual vocals gently forge their way between the strum of overdriven guitars and uplifting rhythm parts. There's something of the Smashing Pumpkins about Yuck in how they manage to make upbeat rock songs sound like gentle pop. Soothing lyrical delivery contrasts nicely with the crunch of guitar and each song makes it's own mark in a set full of instantly likeable tunes.
