On 1 February 2012, Backyards will proudly release their debut EP If You're Scared

The Leeds-based band have built up a following playing stirring and exciting music that has been described as "intense, musically diverse and incredibly engaging" (Will Woodward, The Blue Walrus). This beautifully recorded 4-song EP is a lush, detailed representation of their ambitious and promising talent.

If You're Scared contains songs that are musically heartfelt and intense, yet lyrically intimate and reflective. With comparisons to Arcade Fire, Radiohead, The National, and Idlewild, the Backyards sound is very eclectic and multifaceted.

"It may be a mouthful and a half trying to describe their sounds but it's what makes them so unique and a great live act. It didn't matter what kind of music you were into, the whole crowd stopped and listened to these guys who were simply entertaining and professional." (Holly Senior, Leeds Uncut)

Backyards deploy shimmering violin, guitars, and keyboards over a driving, pounding rhythm section with dual lead vocalists. Backyards songs are known for their atmosphere and ability to be both dark and light, powerful and optimistic.

A release show for the EP launch and shows across the UK are planned for early 2012. These songs have already seen both radio-play and live performance on air - "Their sound is something to behold. BBC Introducing doff our caps to Backyards." (Jenny Eells, BBC York).
