By Gavin Butler
The first five tracks on this self funded EP are made up of Ghosts, written and performed by Neil Star, front man of Dopamine and Attack! Attack! (UK), the latter Echoes, is the work of Gavin Butler, of The Blackout.
However, these songs are a far cry from their day jobs in a rock band! The indie infused melodies and deep lyrics are completely different to previous hits.
Most of these songs are soothing ballads and toe tapping catchy tunes, which one would listen to when winding down after a long day at the grind.
Ghosts & Echoes is self funded by the two artists. I believe this was a way to get other songs out of their system, which didn't quite fit into their other musical aspects. This aside, the songs are really quite great.
My personal favourite is Into The Sea by Gavin, as the anguish heard in his lyrics speaks volumes. The songs are acoustic throughout, and as the EP's picturesque cover suggests a sincere glimpse into their hearts.
Charismatic, soul bearing lyrics, along with the swaying melodic strums are a plenty in this record. Ghosts & Echoes is something which was a pleasant surprise to listen to, and one which was brilliantly explored by Star and Butler.
