Right off the bat, I've got to say I love the guys at NiceUp! It can't be much more than a year since I first stumbled across their superb blog and their awesome back catalogue of reggae bootlegs and mashups, ever since I've been hooked. Earlier this year they announced they were going legit and launched in grand style with the first release from Monkey Mafia in many a long year.
This, their third release, is every bit as massive. Getting together with the legendary reggae label Fashion, who are celebrating their digital relaunch, we are treated to two remixes out of the very top draw. Ragga D&B specialists Serial Killaz lineup on the A Side. With the Dub Pistols, whose new album is imminent, manning the flip side.
Serial Killaz get stuck into Andrew Paul's Who's Gonna Make the Dance Ram. The legendary Sleng Teng riddim is fully intact with a jungle vibe that perfectly peps up the original reggae vibe. The Dub Pistols rock up to the party with a remix of Pato Banton's Nice Up The Session and they show they can skank every bit as much as the Killaz. A jungle beat backs up Banton's original MCing, with a frankly brilliant horn section that is used to brutal effect on the break. If we can expect more of this on the Pistol's new album, it is going to be a great summer!
