The first ska band of the day took to the Vans Music Stage and by god did they do it proud.
After the breakup of Capdown, it was hard to imagine another band pipping the ska-punk post. Nonetheless, the Keighley four-piece Random Hand managed this with no uncertainties.
Their 'in your face' exhilarating performance on Saturday and imaginably, again on Sunday, will have definitely made this the year for Random Hand.
The band shred through their setlist; a mixture of tombone-infused skacore and heavy metal riffs. All the while, lead vocalist Robin Leitch was bouncing on stage, energising the crowd into a frenzy. 'Anger Management' played and a circle pit formed which in turn established just how ferociously wild the punters were getting. Crowd surfing from Robin himself got folk dancing like loons. Heads were banging, feets were skanking and arms were wailing. All this being the effect a mixed bag of songs can bring; old and new.
The band is a confident bunch when playing live and they have no reason not to be. Comic genius delivered between songs from the front man shows that the band are nobody's fool.
I'll make no secrets about my love for the band. It was an incredible performance bound to create countless more ska junkies.
