I'm not a cop. Never have been. But the new single, "Not A Cop", from Glasgow post-rock instrumentalists, Vasa, makes me want to be one just so I can arrest someone, play this loudly in their eardrums and make them dance up and down the street to it just like I've being doing all day.
Post-rock can never usually be described as 'danceable' but this is. Ridiculously so. Though to be fair you would need to dance very, very fast. Starting off like the soundtrack to a 16-bit computer console game it launches into an explosion of guitars, something akin to being bashed over the head with a pugil-stick by the gorgeous Jet from Gladiators. The band were clearly all born with three hands each as it's the only way I can figure out how they can play guitar in this way and, crikey, there's even part of the song where they make the guitars sound like bagpipes (good bagpipes!).
B-Side, "Something Awful", is the beautiful come-down after the party. At times melancholy and at times uplifting, it crushes and rebuilds your soul in 101 lovely ways.
Nine out of Ten!
Right, I'm off to dance down the street again. Sorry, neighbours.
