Aquilo, is the dreamy electro-pop creation of post-teen duo Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher. The Lake District natives made waves back in 2014, with impressive live shows at Kendal Calling festival and Glastonbury Festival, before releasing their second EP, Human later that year.
After an exciting summer playing some of the UK's biggest festivals, it's hard to believe how young and successful Aquilo already are. With similarities to well known bands such as London Grammar, The XX and Foals, Aquilo are certainly paving the way for new, melancholic electro-pop bands, producing ambient harmonies and piano-led tracks.
Their sound is generally soft and soothing; with tracks such as 'Human' portraying a strong sense of maturity through perfectly mastered, reflective harmonies, imitating a band that has been together for a long time.
Their track 'Good Girl' has a slightly faster pace than 'Human', maintaining Higham's calming, yet pensive vocals, telling a story in the chorus of ''I've been looking for a good girl/ yeah I'm looking for a good girl/ tell me if you think I've found it.''
One track that stood out for me however, was 'I Gave It All'. This dreamily sad track is beautiful, introducing the listener into the layers of electronic heartbreak, as Higham sings about the ever-popular topic of love and breakups. I urge everyone to listen to this particular track; it's incredibly emotive displaying a compelling amount of honesty from Higham and Fletcher.
Up next for Aquilo, is their eagerly anticipated tour across America, with live shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Brooklyn, before gracing us Northerners with their presence at Beacons festival, where they will be playing at the Headrow House, Leeds on the Wednesday 4th November.
