Wavves

Live at Belgrave Music Hall on Friday, 13th November 2015

This was my first gig experience in Leeds after moving here from Hull to study. I found the general atmosphere really inviting with the mise en scene being homely and chilled with the sofas, low key lighting and sense of everyone is really into music.

The first band I could feel a vibe that they were local from the way that they addressed the audience with open arms and there was a joyful and nice lead up to the other more upbeat bands to be playing after. The main singers' voice reminded me of Ellie Rowsell and I liked the mixture of keyboard and the different off beats.

The second band I thought was really interesting as it was a trio, They were quite heavy and the female singer had a really nice toned voice. I felt that each song was memorable in its own way and I felt they collaborated well together.

The headline band was Wavves from the US. They had a suburban rock vibe and I really liked the motion of the audience really into and engaging with the music. They have influences from The Beach Boys and I felt that the way the gig was structured to be fun, everyone involved, and there was everyone able to do their own thing. (I have never seen as many people crowd surfing before than at that gig.)

Overall I had an absolute ball, I really like the night after going with a not so close friend from my home town I felt very at home at this venue, everyone was lovely, I met some nice girls who I then went out with after the gig and I would 100% attend another gig here again after all the bands were strong, everything was smooth and I had a really brilliant night.
