By Red Fang
Red Fang are back with their fourth offering of utterly heavy head banging metal riffs. This album can make you want to come in closer or run for your life, not an easy feat in 10 tracks!
'Flies' is a catchy track with excellent bass sound. 'Cut It Short' has a taste of QOTSA with it's staccato short sound bursts. 'Flames' is just there to kill time I think, sounding like a hidden track that's advanced up the charts to number 3 but no one knows why.
'No Air' makes me run for the hills! It's dark, tormented and the sound of nightmares. One to give you hellish fairy tale nightmares. 'Shadows' is excellent with its tennis-hit vocals and duel guitar solos, fading out into unevened surfaced bass. Jump from this to the catchy 'Not For You' with a little bit of the later Foo Fighters high guitar strands and melodies.
The creepy nightmares are back for 'The Smell of the Sound', sludging in the shadows of your dreams. The horror theme tune sound is back for 'The Deep', yet more torment! The great bass riff start of 'I Am A Ghost' leading into quieter guitars slows down the pace to a tick tock speed, then the vocals of a bear with a sore head wakening early from hibernation come at you. "Gonna hang you out to dry/gonna make you wish you'd died!" Dark man.
Finishing the album off is 'Living In Lye, riff and drum roll into a catchy riff, complete with bass solos. It's a little bit punky even in melody. It's a dark album for Red Fang but definitely a grower. Bring on the videos!
