Vib Gyor

indie rock

Combining the intensity of Radiohead with the subtle soundscapes of Sigur Ros, Vib Gyor have become purveyors of the finest atmospheric, explosive rock. With shimmering guitars, pounding drums and aching, sweeping vocals, they project a rich, anthemic, yet totally original sound.

Frustrated with everyday life, the Leeds-based band formed in 2004 through the renowned Leeds Music Scene website. Industry recognition and public acclaim followed a breathtaking performance at Manchester's In The City music convention. This year the band has been invited back to headline one of the biggest nights of the event - Club Fandango. They recently played much-coveted slots at Glastonbury's 'Late n Live' and Leftfield Stages.

Stateside, interest has escalated after an intriguing piece in Entertainment Weekly. The article sparked mass excitement amongst labels, publishers and radio presenters alike, leading to an interview and acoustic session on San Diego station 91X's 'The Big Break', a slot normally reserved for US talent.

On both sides of the Atlantic, comparisons have been made with artists including Jeff Buckley and U2. Counting these musicians as influences alongside The Pixies, Pink Floyd and Flaming Lips, the band consists of Dave Fendick (vocals, acoustic guitar), Zane Keenan (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), Jonny Mulroy (guitar and effects), Jonny Hooker (drums) and James Heggie (bass guitar). They have produced a catalogue of 20 songs to date, created entirely on Zane Keenan's home studio computer system.

With intense live performances and ambitious recordings, Vib Gyor offer the Radiohead generation an essential addition to its CD collection.

This band is clearly good at what they do. But original it aint. Good luck to you guys, but I think you've had a massive push from LeedsMusicScene and they should be getting behind more bands.

How many more? have you read all 700+ CD reviews? All 700+ live reviews? Many of those will be for Leeds artists. And if memory serves me right one or two of them got four or five stars and a big push.

Hey old man - this is a 3 track demo of some of our more accessable stuff. We do have 11 minute epics in the vain of Sigur Ros and Mogwai. but we thought it wise to put this out as a taster first...Whats your band by the way, if you are so original yourself I'd love to hear it,,,Perhaps you could teach us something

Whats the point promoting your music as song based Coldplay/Snow Patrol type and then saying its a taster before you release Mogwai/Sigur Ros stuff. Imagine if Coldplay brought out an album like Sigur Ros () or Mogwai's Happy Songs for Happy people
now, after promoting themselves as a rock band.It would go down like a sack of shit because thats not the style of music the fans want to hear from this group. If Nine Inch Nails started doing Country music on there next album, same again. I cant understand how Vib Gyor feel playing pop records to win over a fan base and then releasing something totally different is a good thing. It doesnt seem right, I've got nothing wrong to say about Vib Gyor, i'm pleased they are doing well and we should be glad bands such as these are putting Leeds on the map. However I disagree with giving people a taster and then changing the whole format, its misleading to the fan base which they have already generated . Also will people stop commenting how fit the band members are-we're meant to be grown ups-its not Smash Hits. I dont like reading trash like this, I feel like I'm on some teen chat forum. This is about melodies, bands and music not jaw lines, tans and fricking how lovely the bag pipe players eyes are.

You cant slag this band off though, there creating a big vibe and although there not my verre de tea(glass of tea in french or something like that)I can appreciate what they do. Bon soir

Maybe they are just reeling us in like musical fish. Awesome indie rock and then over time they sneak in musical soundscapes that blow us away. Before you know it they've stopped sounding like coldplay. This way they'll have a bigger fan base as I'm sure a lot of people get scared about 11 minute rock soundscapes.

That's my theory anyway

"Whats the point promoting your music as song based Coldplay/Snow Patrol type and then saying its a taster before you release Mogwai/Sigur Ros stuff." ... good question 3K7 ... but it isn't what the guy said. The phrase he used was "more accessible". These guys owe absolutely nothing to Snow Patrol or Coldplay. But they are a band who you can listen to on their own terms. The material they have released for demo is very accomplished. I believe they have also recorded some more ambitions material ... but it's clearly the same band, the same talent. Always best to have something in reserve I think. And Si, I think you do them little credit to suggest they are chosing whther to sound like Coldplay or Mogwai. I think they are setting off to do a pretty fine stab of finding out what they sound like in their own right. Musical innocents they most certainly are not.

Hello again.. Just wanted to quickly respond to the above comments. All we are doing is evolving as a band.. Zane & I had a few songs done in Feb and when the new members joined we worked them out first..The newer songs have been written as we got to know each other. there is no masterplan to reel you in..I mean Radiohead can do High and Dry and Karma police and then do Paranoid Android or the National Anthem..We aren't trying to do anything except write songs we enjoy playing. We also like to keep you on your toes. You never know what we are going to do next, and that is why I enjoy playing in this band so much.. we are all open minded and play what we like rather than what we think people would like. At the end of the day, we aren't into hype or gimmicks.. its all rather embarrassing. We just want to be an honest band that write real tunes and melodies.. Anyway..said my piece..Thanks again for all your support... Dave (Vib Gyor)

What is the point diguising how you really want to be percieved in order to win over fans. Music isnt about worrying about how accesible the music is. Its about what the band feel comfortable with and what they enjoy playing. Vib Gyor quite clearly stated that they wanted a taster of their material to be released before releasing other material which in many respects is very much different.

It may be the same band, the same talent but it definately isnt the same music if thats what they decide to release next. Music isnt about accesibility or how many girls you can get to comment how fit you are, its about being true to yourself. I'm sure either way Vib Gyor will remain at the top of what they do and I'm sure when bands like Mogwai started out they didnt write accessible songs to get noticed before changing there style.

Ps I'm looking forward to the new material by Vib Gyor and dont mean to sound like I'm having a go. So if the above seems extreme then dont let it
seem like that. Just stick to what you want to do rather than what you think people want you to do. Take it easy-taste the rainbow

"Just stick to what you want to do rather than what you think people want you to do" comes over as pretty patronising. If you're saying that Vib Gyor play things that people want them to play rather than what they want to play, my guess is you're simply wrong. As you'll discover, choosing set lists is never simple when you have a large amount of good material. A serious artist will balance their own favourites against what works for the audience they will be playing to. If the song isn't up to scratch it wouldn't be in the repertoire in the first place.

i'm not going to argue bout Vib Gyor's music, its up to them what they do. its not patronising to state that if Vib Gyor want to release their mogwai material, they should do it rather than worrying how accesible it is. if its ready to play then play it.
