Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades

By Brand New

Long Island's Brand New are, errm, brand new to me... funny git, bet they get that all the time. No seriously, I haven't listened to their music before - even though this is now the second UK single from their second album release - and it is the remixes and acoustic versions of songs that caught my attention at first. All I can do is wow over these and wait 'til a future time to hear the originals, which is a backward way of doing things. Soco Amaretto Lime closes the CD and is my favourite of the three, possibly even a strong contender for being the lead track. Although I guess it is not really ideal to have an electronic-based remix at track one and your bread and butter pushed to the end. Remixed by Mike Sapone, it contrasts well with the high energy choruses / slow grasping verses of the lead track Sic Transit Gloria - a driving emo-with-screams-like song with Lacey's vocals drifting between left and right channels during the verses, intriguing and somewhat conversation-like - and the acoustic version of The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows at track two. The remix has a wispy tuneful quality, akin to the quieter moments of Sic Transit Gloria and caps three entirely different tracks that work so well together ... so much so that I've had this on repeat now for several hours (honest) ...

I've just bought the album this single is from and it's mint. "The Quiet Things..." is awesome. Great harmonies.

they took this title from a line in a film called Rushmore. it had Bill Murray in it and everything. Good stuff.
