Seattle's Modest Mouse have been sideline spectators on the scene for a good while now, quietly enjoying the flattering but financially lacking "cult" status. Now with the muscle of Epic records behind them they look set to make a Flaming Lips style ascent to the top. The campaign begins with their first release "Float On" taken from their new album "Good news for people who love bad news" out in July.
It's gilt-edged alt-pop stuff and finds an opportune window at the moment, following amongst others, the likes of Franz Ferdinand who've paved the way for the current vogue for sounding like Talking Heads. A beat beat beat in to your brain chorus doesn't do any harm either. When combined with a summer plinky plonky guitar riff the "try and get it out of your head" factor is annoyingly high.
Perfect pop from perfect madness, works every time!
