By The Boy Least Likely To
The third single from the exclusive in the know club that is "The Boy Least Likely To". Those in the know apparently include the likes of Steve Lamacq, Clare Grogan and Rough Trade. No doubt they have all been attracted by a sweet school room sound that resembles T-rex playing folk with a banjo and a xylophone.
This is Badly Drawn Boy quirky territory and there are distinct leanings to The Sleepy Jackson and the simple progressive compositions of The Flaming Lips.
Certainly fans of all of the above will feel like they are sitting in a familiar easy chair when listening.
Having cracked the sound, the songs are sadly not quite so gripping. Both title track "Fur Soft As Fur" and b-side one "I see spiders when I close my eyes" are upbeat, pretty summer sounds but they do little to stick in the lobes.
Certainly "The Boy least likely to" has the angle and with the addition of the songs the report card will soon be A+.
