By Desert Monkey
Only 19 and thrashing their long locks around on the front cover of this new EP, Desert Monkey are clearly having a good time. It's a shame the same can't be said for the music, which is for the best part, one dimensional out of touch stoner-rock. Five tracks all with the same monotone Reef without the relish vocals over Led Zep-ish lumbering chugga chugga.
A biog which talks of "powerful vocals, hooky riffs and catchy lead" could well have got mixed up in the post. There's power, albeit misdirected, but hooky? catchy? nope. In fact it's the key problem that of just 5 tracks on offer not one offers the slightest in the memorability stakes.
For those who are akin with the band in flicking their 2-foot mops around at the local rock toilet then this is the perfect background to a moody night in looking through motorbike mags.
