By Madeleine Brooks
Madeleine has been pleasing and sometimes astounding various West Yorkshire and Lancashire audiences for a few years now, and they deserve something to take away at the end of the show. Her success so far has been achieved without so much as a demo, which indicates both the level of her talent and her disorganised way of applying it.
The wonderful 'Calling Time' is the centrepiece of this five-song selection and the one that best survives some production short-comings: over-trebly and a bit light on guitar. It's an unmastered live recording from Stubbing Wharf at Hebden Bridge, where the performance may well have featured her song 'In Company' - not on the CD though supplying the title.
It's going to bring Madeleine Brooks more bookings and many fans. For those who buy this early issue at seven pounds, there's hand-wrought text on both disc and insert.
