I Believe

By The Marble Index

If Jet didn't exist then "I Believe" would be an all-you-can-eat buffet of rock but instead it's hard not to imagine those talentless wankers churning out their Vodafone song. Though if you do manage to block them out then any dedicated follower of big riffs and good old rock and roll might just be able to get their teeth into this juicy affair.

The Marble Index show their true colours on the remaining tracks on the EP. Where the first track is pure mainstream toss the rest of the band's efforts show their more intelligent side, which serves as some proof to why they were chosen to support the mighty Pixies during their November tour. However like with those evil doers Jet, you always have that niggling feeling that you've heard it all somewhere before and that it was probably done better.

Though final track "Lot Of These Things" is worth checking out because it is an example of a catchy as hell in your face rock extravaganza. It's just a shame the rest of the EP isn't as good.

You know where you say "you feel like you've heard it before and it was probably better the first time"?

I reckon (and have thought this for a long time) that originality sounds good. Even if you've lived on Mars, came down to earth and heard The Stones it would sound amazing because they were fuelled by the power of invention.

Unilke The Black Crowes, who sound fine but don't have that spark of genius.

In some ways, I think not only can you hear (or somehow feel) that originality, it can be argued that it is what separates music that is art from music that is not.

Not specifically, no. But if you wanna make something of it, lets go, punk-ass-nu-metal-loving-spandex-wearing-Alaistair-McGowan-quite-enjoying-especially-the-david-beckham-bits-and-sometimes-rory-bremners-politics-get-in-the-way-of-the-humour.

Are you coming to the Love Apple on Sunday?
