By Hell Is For Heroes
When the EMI axe fell last year, HIFH were one of several bands that found the rug pulled from under them and a frightening wilderness beckoning. Having headed off to put the finishing touches to the second album that "just wasn't good enough" in the eyes of EMI, they have returned playing a well received tour and given their small army of black hooded-top followers some hope for the future. Pity they chose to do with this song then!
"Models For The Programme" undoubtedly blows speakers in venues everywhere when it leaps between quiet and loud, but it's totally by the numbers. Crowd-surf and sweat along for hours live, but stick it on your stereo and the painful formulaic truth is exposed. The over-layered guitar solo that closes the song, although nice, reeks of a "it's missing a hook lads" studio conversation. Suddenly the wilderness looks all the more barren.
