Hailing from Detroit, Deadstring Brothers have delivered a fine album worth of songs that evoke thoughts of 'Exile On Main Street'. From opener 'Im A Stealer' through to closing track 'The Long Black Veil' there is a consistent quality to these alt.country tunes, littered with slide guitar and bluesy piano and organ brush strokes of colour. Kurt Marschke certainly has a touch of Mick Jagger about his vocals, that slight lilt that adds so much character. His voice gives extra strength to the already excellent musical backing. The tempo rises and falls across the album and provides variety and depth to proceedings. 'Unbroken' has a touch of The Wondermints about it in places that juxtapose nicely to the country-esque twang of Marschke's vocal.

'For A Time' almost sounds like a Madchester tune spliced with Willie Nelson, its powering bass line fused with harmonies a plenty. 'Such A Crime' and 'Unbroken' also stand out, but to be fair there's a high standard throughout here and there is much to recommend.
