By La Haine
"As far as ambition, hard graft and commitment are concerned, no-one has a patch on us" ... that's as maybe, but as far as songwriting and putting your finger on a good tune there's plenty that do. "Art-rock" now there's a term designed to cover sins if ever there was one, and what might those sins be? Boring songs, pompous behaviour, out of tune Ian Curtis vocals, did we mention boring songs?
Five tunes all of equal dreary appeal and all shaded in gloom, "Good Hanging" has some life about it and is scant refreshment after the way too long and uninspiring five minutes of "Carnival". Ironically the band are at their most interesting with instrumental closer "The Scrape". Let's hope ambition, graft and commitment go further for La Haine than it does for all the countless other souls out there with the same belief.
