You're Speaking My Language

By Juliette & The Licks

The history of Hollywood stars attempting rock careers is a long and disastrous one (anyone remember Dogstar? If not, count yourself lucky) so you'd be well within your rights to approach this offering from Juliette Lewis' (she of "From Dusk Till Dawn" and "Natural Born Killers" fame) new band with some trepidation.

And unfortunately you'd be right. The aim here is admirable enough - Ramonesian bubblegum pop-punk with ballsy vocals but somehow something just doesn't connect and the whole thing is eminently forgettable, bringing to mind nothing more than Jon Spencer's rightly long forgotten Boss Hog side project of a few years back. Wanna hear this sort of thing done properly? Try the new Mika Bomb single instead.

This album is mint and Juliette Lewis has an awesome voice. PJ Harvey esque in places.

Hi MQ, I think I agree more with Andy on this one. It's very average in my opinion.

Fair point Michael - I can see why some people would like it, it just didn't really click with me. Ah well, if we all agreed etc...

Indeed, horses for courses. I was pleasantly surprised though. An I love the Boss Hogg stuff too which may explain all !
