I Am You

By Mondo

This latest release from Mud Hut new boys Mondo, left me wondering if there was more to this band than meets the eye. The music that was lurking somewhere behind the glitzy photos on their cover was very inspiring. They are a very tight unit and right from the go you can tell they are on to a winner with this sound.

The title track has 2 formats - the main edit and radio edit. Not a very good recording to say it's a single, but nevertheless, the band go on to create a musical masterpiece. The vocal takes a distorted tone on this track, which is unlike anything I have heard in a long time. They are a very guitar driven band with a lead male vocal, but it is the female backing vocals, which give it its "new" sound. Sort of an early Stone Roses feel to the track. What is also interesting is their use of samples in this, and all the other songs on this CD. They certainly know how to create good music.

The 2nd and 3rd track took the band into a completely different dimension from this track. Both were slightly more relaxed than the single. Maybe trying to show people there is more than meets the eye to Mondo. They create loud, hard rock at times, and they create mellow moods another. Well if this CD is anything to go by then there certainly is.
