400 Boys

By Hoggboy

The bastard offspring of the great Brit indie uprising of 2002 are back to give it another shot and by 'eck, we've missed 'em a bit more than we thought it seems. But then even three years ago, Sheffield's Hoggboy stuck out like a sore thumb among most of the competition - while the Libertines were mumbling incoherently over broken FX pedals about how their dealer was coming round to break their legs, Hoggboy infused their take on sneered-up garage punk with a style and swagger (and a lot of songs about shagging) that suggested they were loving every single minute of it.

While "400 Boys" isn't quite up to the standard of their twin career high water marks to date of "So Young" and "Shouldn't Let The Side Down", it's a timely reminder that in the right hands this sort of music need not necessarily be tedious self-pitying toss like... well, like that last Razorlight single for a start. Go take a listen, you might like it.
