With Fischerspooner and Ladytron trying to reclaim the ground lost in the bloody and pointless electroclash wars, Detroit couple Adult. are back on the frontline with this EP and a live tour. Sadly, it does them and music no favours, blending Kate Bush screamatronica with random beeps and bloops blindly stolen from the Chemical Brothers' sweet shop.
While opener 'Hold your breath' follows what Adult. call a "more conventional rock direction," the end result is chorus - squelch, grind, wibble - chorus, its discordant electro white noise sounding like a hoover being drowned in a blender. Elsewhere, "Hairing Impaired" is just that, every hair follicle obliterated by a scatter gun death ray as it tries to avoid the punishing noise.
Best is title track "D.U.M.E," but again the marriage of punk vocals and apparently monkey programmed synths clashes horribly, leaving you punch drunk and lurching for the off button. It sounds big but it sure as hell ain't clever.
